ERNST FARMS -- 239 acres with 5 BR/3BA home and 45x72 shed/shop, blacktop road frontage Historic 1840's Farm homesteaded by German immigrants with one original cabin still standing and the rock foundation of another cabin. Another original log cabin was replaced in 1989 with a 5 bedroom, 3 bath, 2352 square feet home built with 2x6 sidewalls by John Singleton. It includes a semi-attached 2 car garage with breezeway. New vinyl siding and metal roof were added about 6 years ago. The original "carriage house" with wooden floor is still in good condition and has been turned into a chicken house. A new 45' x 72' machine shed and shop was built about 10 years ago. It has 6 each 12' wide bays, 3 are open on one side with gravel floor for a machine shed and the other 3 bays (36' x 45') are enclosed with concrete floor, 3 overhead doors, insulated, heated and air conditioned. It comes with a "keg-er-ator" refrigerator and the back door opens to 500 yard shooting into the Corps of Engineers property. What a Man Cave! Woof!! A 200 yard rifle range (with concrete pad) is in front of the shop. This part of the Ernst Farms is 173 acres (of the total 239) and it has 5 ponds and 10 deer stands. One of these stands is called the "Dutchman Stand" which is stick built with peaked rood, hinged door, and fold down windows with carpeted sills. It is similar to some of the "stick built"deer stands in Germany! The home sets on the site of an original log cabin which was a stage stop for the Butterfield Overland Stage in the 1860's. The horses were watered at a hand dug and rock lined well which is about 100 yards from the house. The stage road comes in from the north and passes an old Schoolhouse foundation about 1/2 mile north in the woods. The Schoolhouse well holds water year round. There are several hundred yards of hand laid rock walls through out the property. They seem to be in a "good defensive position" and it is believed that they may have been from the Civil War. It would have taken many years for a few farmers to build these rock walls, but if you had 1000 troops sitting around waiting for a battle, the troops could have built them in a couple of weeks! Ernst Farms has a very private setting 1/4 mile down a private drive off Hwy K, 10 miles south of Warsaw on Rt 83. This is a great Blacktop Road with no dust! There is also a dual access to the west side of the farm via Rocky Ridge Road. At the intersection of Rt 83 and K Hwy, go south on Route 83 approximately 1/2 mile to the Rocky Ridge Road, turn left and go south 1 mile to the Barclay Place homestead and Ernst Farms west entrance. The Barclay Place is at the Northwest corner of the original German homestead 173 acre farm. This farm has only 26 acres, but is 1/2 mile long north-south with multiple building sites and a 1/2 mile view across the valley. It has a deep well (600') with new power and water run to 2 camper sites plus the big shed. The old shed and 2 other out buildings are still standing and are somewhat serviceable. The old homestead house has been gone for may years but some concrete pads and steps remain. Several varieties of flowers bloom every spring and the view from the "top of the mountain" is breath taking! "Grandpa's Cabin" is still standing down in the valley about 1/4 mile from the Barclay homestead. It was told that Grandpa Barclay built his cabin to get away from Grandma when she got mad at him. The old cabin is not much, but it could be saved for a great conversation piece. Some old 1930's truck fenders are in the woods nearby and an old wooden weaving loom is inside, but I doubt that Grandpa ever used the loom! The Barclay Place has 1 spring fed pond near the cabin and 2 stick built deer stands with roofs and sides. They are great for hunting in bad weather. Both stands work well for gun or bow. There is a 300 yard rifle range on the power line at the east side of the Barclay Place. An old wooden bench rest is part of the range. Great place to zero the rifles and shoot long range! The third piece of property (in the Ernst Farms 239 acres ) is the "Denver 40" which is 1/4 mile north of the Barclay Place. This 40 acres was inherited by a man who lived in Denver, hence the nickname "Denver 40". His Great-Uncle had won this 40 acres in a poker game. This has some of the best hunting in the whole farm and it comes with 3 ladder stands - the Stage Line Stand, the End of the Line Stand, and the Junction Stand. There are over 10 miles of roads and trails to accommodate easy access and travel to the 15 deer stands on the 239 acres. A lot of these roads will accommodate a new pickup truck and not scratch it! The whole farm is fenced and it has some cross fencing. There are approximately 70 - 80 acres of pasture, of which 30 acres +/- could be grain farmed, if desired. The flat tillable pasture is hayed every year and has good fescue, grass, and clover. There are several more acres of good pasture which could also be hayed or used for food plots. There are 6 ponds to provide water for wildlife. This property was developed by a Hunter and a Shooter. We have been very selective and have not shot many deer, but there is a good population. Deer are seen within 100 yards of the house almost every day. The deer like to go through the Farm and graze on the clover before they work their way to the grain crops on the Corps of Engineers Truman Lake land. Truman Lake has 55,000 acres of water and 100,000 acres of public access land for hunting and recreation.
